We are deeply saddened to share the passing of our esteemed colleague, Dr. Tasleem Khamisani. A distinguished clinician, public health leader, and deeply respected mentor, Dr. Khamisani dedicated more than 30 years of his life to serving others with unwavering compassion and integrity. He was both a healing presence at the bedside and a tireless advocate for strengthening health systems across Pakistan.
Born and raised in Khairpur, Pakistan, Dr. Khamisani earned his medical degree from Chandka Medical College and a Master’s in Public Health with distinction from Massey University in New Zealand. His career spanned a range of roles—from frontline care to national health strategy and emergency response—always with a deep commitment to equity, dignity, and public service.
Among his many contributions, he played a pivotal role in establishing and operationalizing Sindh’s District Health Information System (DHIS) to inform strategic decision-making. He was also instrumental in the rollout of the Sindh and National Electronic Immunization Registries (EIR), helping transform how immunization data is captured and used in Pakistan.
During the COVID-19 crisis, Dr. Khamisani led the response in the Sukkur regional hub with extraordinary resolve, setting up the first quarantine camp, establishing a BSL-3 laboratory, and creating Pakistan’s first dedicated COVID-19 ICU, where patients received exceptional care under his leadership. He also co-authored several publications in international scientific journals, contributing to global knowledge in public health and health systems strengthening.
A founding member of Grassroots and a valued Advisor, Dr. Khamisani was more than a colleague. He was a kind, humble, and generous human being—a trusted guide, and to many of us, like an elder brother.
His absence leaves a profound void, but his legacy in public health and the lives he touched will endure. He is survived by his wife, a daughter, and two sons.
May Allah (SWT) grant him the highest place in Jannah and bring strength and comfort to his loved ones during this difficult time.
