Grassroots, in collaboration with the Lead Exposure Elimination Project (LEEP) and Stanford University, presented findings from its study on lead adulteration in Pakistan's turmeric markets at the Second Annual Research Conference on Global Lead Exposure in London hosted by the Center for Global Development.
The research explored knowledge, perceptions, and practices related to turmeric adulteration among consumers and retailers in Karachi and Hyderabad. The findings revealed low awareness of lead adulteration across both groups and highlighted information gaps that may contribute to continued exposure risks through the turmeric supply chain.
The conference brought together researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and organizations working on lead exposure from around the world. The event provided an opportunity to share emerging evidence and discuss approaches to prevention, mitigation, and policy action.
